As a group we had a great season, many deer were seen, some were taken and more lived to see another day. Venison was shared
and memories were made. I'm looking forward to another great year in 2001 ! I'll keep the same format with the reports
than the following updates. Seems to me that it is better to leave all the posts as they stand. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So far the season is off to a great start Uncle Bill bagged a 12pt. Red Stag over seas {Scotland} and
hunted various unland birds to boot. I can not wait until I see the pictures and hear the complete story. I'll update
you later with that The weekend of the 14-16th in Oct. I hunted Vermont with out seeing a deer in the woods. Yet added
two new members to the partners page.. Long time friend Bobby Bothelo and son Tony . Bob known as Bird is also an avid
traditional bow shooter. And the other members of the Vermont clan were bitten by the ease of the stick and string...
they touched the bows and were bitten by the bug! Look forward to hunting with the Bird man and son Tony again in the future.
Tony gave a deer a hair cut on the 17th of Oct. But Jeff Sousa dropped a doe on the evening of the 27th in my ol' stompping
grounds of E. Taunton. He just couldn't wait for the Gray Lady Archery Festival to kick off. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brother-in-law Kevin bagged a nice 6 pter in Maine on the 30th of Oct., with a heart shot from a 35 cal rifle. Great job,
he is having the trophy mounted, not bad for a first deer. Had a good time teaching him and son 'Mad Dog' Marc the fine points
of butchering. Patti joined in in the process also. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I sit and type Jiddo and the squrriel are over seas, the Gray Lady Archery festival is offically underway. Update
The Mint Man performed flawlessly! We all thank you! But what happened to the mints? Two weeks on the island and 1 shot
for Jiddo! Miss! Bucks will do it to a guy! Nice to know that the packing cap is still in place for another year. Jeff shot
and missed at a doe across the street from the farm. Uncle Bill broke the drought at the farm on the last night, at last light,
seeing 2 doe, but was unable to clear the velcro strap of his release, what excuse is that one???? As for Shawn and I , their
aren't any deer on this island! Skunked in the woods of Nantucket! Saw plenty from the trucks. One that would have made the
cover of any hunting mag out! Uncle Bill brought the photos from his past hunts, great shots from Alaska and Canada and this
years trip to Scotland. All looked forward to adventures together in the future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two brothers Bob are in Penn. this week, I'm sure that I'll be hearing from them real soon. They usually do well.
Update Plenty of deer seen in the woods of Penn. along with several missed guided shots. A 5pt. fell to a well placed
shot from Bob T. but Mouth didn't fair very well. Trophy class deer will do it to a guy! Next year plenty of spent arrows
will be used in the tomato garden. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vermont is still under way and I'm told that Terry also shot and missed at a fat little 4pt. buck. What's happening this
year I see a trend. Update Terry shot himself a real nice 7pter on the 21st of Nov. in the forest of Plymouth.
Sounded really happy and took the oppertunity to let me know that retirement was hard work. Hunting everyday! Oh, I feel sorry
for him! Terry did it again on the 24th! This it was an 8 pter! Way to go, not bad for a old retired man. Stopped by work
with a polaroid picture. The ol' man keeps shooting the deer and brother Bob is doing the dragging! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hot Rod faired a lot better in New York. Along with his party they took two bucks a 7 & 8 pt. along with a doe. Good
going guys. New York 3 - Nantucket 0 ! Pictures will be coming soon, check out the web shots page - deer photos!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Jiddo and Shawn have been out behind the house in New Bedford with mixed results. Seeing deer, Jiddo
got a shot! You guessed right. MISS ! He'll run out of bandanas real soon at this rate. That was the 21st of Nov. On
the 24th they went to a new place 2 1/2 miles down the street and after tramping around the woods getting a tour, sat for
a while and had a partial white doe in their lap, so close that Shawn was getting ready to ask her for a date! No shot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHOT GUN SEASON First
day of the season, November 27th, and the phone was ringing off the hook! Lighten' Leblanc was a shooting machine, two shots
two bucks ! First a 4 pt and than a 8 pt . Both were quite large for around here. The 4 pt dressed out at 160 lbs . and the
8 pt weighed in at 190 lbs .!!!!! No sooner had I hung up the phone with him I was on again with Jeff Sousa , he shot a 10
pt and was very happy with the deer, that one is going to the taxidermist. 180 lbs for Jeffs deer, and he did it again today
the 28th with another racked buck...well half rack. More to come on that story. Rumor has it that Jiddo was out with the gun
also? I'll have to check up on that. Lighten's at it again, make that a three for. A doe crossed his path this morning.
Way to go Chris! Phone rang again this morning, brother Bob 'Tirrell' shot himself a doe yesterday the 27th, time for
Terry to drag! Isn't that what partners are for! Seems that Bird was hunting with them with his recurve and almost had a shot
at a dandy 10pt., but those are the limitations and beauty of the traditional archer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More to come in 2001
